About the Artist Jackass

I’m Joe. I paint donkeys. Big ones, small ones, sassy ones, ones that look like they just overheard something juicy.

They show up in my head uninvited — mid-coffee, mid-sentence, mid-life crisis — and I do my best to pin them down with thick paint and questionable decisions. Sometimes they end up on canvas. Sometimes on denim. Occasionally a horseshoe or a hat.

I live in Madrid, New Mexico, which is basically a mining town that wandered off and became something stranger. I’ve got a little studio here, and a vintage pickup I turned into a mobile gallery, popping up wherever the donkeys lead me. It’s part roadside sideshow, part art experiment, part donkey cult.

I don’t make high art. I make eye-contact-from-across-the-parking-lot art.
